MEET OUR TEAM!

ELIZABETH HENG
Programme Arkidtect

Elizabeth enjoys doing craft work and teaching children. Prior to joining BEEP Lab, she started her teaching journey as a music trainer in 2015 before her undergraduate days in Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Since then, she has enjoyed interacting with the younger generation from preschool children to secondary school students, where each student is unique. Upon graduating from her architectural studies in SUTD, she took a leap of faith to pursue a role in programme writing and programme lead in BEEP Lab.

Through her journey in BEEP Lab, she was able to meet people of various backgrounds and abilities. Elizabeth strongly believes that no two people are alike yet they can always be guided to achieve their highest potential. She believes that learning is a two-way street, where through sharing and exchanging knowledge with one another, one’s learning journey will be more fruitful.

ALBERT LIANG
Founder

Albert Liang is an Architectural Education Innovator based in Singapore. To help students blaze new trails in the future, BEEP’s founder Albert had to first embark on the path less taken. As a child, Albert had difficulties learning in school. But an arts and crafts workshop changed everything.

At the workshop organised by a kindergarten based in Taipei , 7-year-old Albert discovered new ways to focus and assimilate knowledge. It began with Albert making his mind up to remain open to alternative learning methods, and building on his unique competencies.

When attending secondary school in Singapore, Albert brought together a community of subject experts who helped one another learn more efficiently.
The shared successes they enjoyed inspired Albert to start something bigger. Albert studied architecture in National University of Singapore. This was when he realised that his education was simply preparing him to be an architect in the workforce. It became apparent that there had to be more to the curriculum than just technical knowledge, that could produce architects who were independent thinkers, curious learners and active change makers.

To change the status quo, Albert decided to improve the way children learnt by embarking on his own journey to relearn the subject of architecture through the lens of children and youths.

He believes that by adopting a new point of view of the world around us, we would be better equipped to decide on our learning interests, and determine how we can better serve society. Architecture, after all, is equal parts art and science — a craft that requires a mind that’s both imaginative and inquisitive.

Albert Liang is a Taiwanese making a difference here in Singapore as an Architectural Education Innovator. He is the founder of BEEP Lab, promoting Built Environment Education Programme for children and youths. He also founded ArKIDecture, a CSR initiative of SAA Architects. As well as an adjunct Design Tutor at National University of Singapore (Architecture Department), Albert is happily married to his beloved wife Lau Soh Yong — who has been the core support in his education start-up.
